Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday 9:30am - 4:30pm

Setting:
Centre is the old school in New Ross. Huge building behind the New Ross Consolidated School. Municipality owns the building and lease to the centre for $1.00/year

Established: 1997

Clientele: Community of New Ross and surrounding area

Are user fees charged? Yes. Depends on the program. Membership to the centre is $25.00/year but membership is not required to use the centre. User fees are very nominal

Any eligibility requirements? Age requirements. Some programs are geared toward 0-6 age group. Working to open an exercise room which will be for persons 14 +. Most programs don’t have requirements.

Major Funder: Programs. Looking at getting grants for Coordinator position as well as for the building. Looking for recreation grant to facilitate the weight and exercise room as well as upgrade the building.

Other Funders: Department of Community Services grant (for 0-6 age group), grants from municipality for maintenance, lease for building from municipality, HRDC for student employment, fundraising (auctions, etc.)

Annual Operating Budget (range): $25,000-$49,999

Best Practices: Partnership with the Soccer Association (ages 3 - adult). Program started with the resource centre but has grown and is now run on their own and the association partners with the centre. Approximately 100 kids involved.

  • Dance classes (beginning in Feb. 2005)

Additional Information:
  • Grand Opening of the weight and exercise room was September 15, 2004. Ballet and Hip Hop dance classes start in February 2005
  • Community Coordinator for the Municipality of Chester has office in same building as centre providing centre with many added services including Hall Walk (twice a week) and Tae Kwan Do classes
