Mission: The well being of all children and families in Nova Scotia.

The Nova Scotia Council for the Family is a registered charity made up of member organizations who serve children and/or families in Nova Scotia. The members of the Council are drawn from organizations and professions that are concerned with the well-being of families. Our members are involved in: The Council offers a range of services in the areas of education, advocacy and special initiatives. As a members service bureau, much of our work is customized to meet the needs of our members and/or the public they serve. The Council is led by a Board of Directors which is appointed from member organizations. An elected executive committee meets regularly to direct the work of the Committees. The Council has two staff positions.

Much of the work of the Council is carried out by volunteer committees made up of individuals from member agencies and the community at large. The committees include: The Nova Scotia Council for the Family was formed in 1967 under the name Nova Scotia Child Welfare Association.

Created by a coalition of service providers, government representatives and community leaders, its members were committed to the care and protection of children from abuse and neglect. Their goal was to work together to provide leadership and support to members to enhance their ability to develop and deliver quality services for children and families in Nova Scotia.

Since that time, the size of the Council has grown to more than 30 members from across the province, representing urban and rural settings.
