Achievement of Excellence Award
This award is presented annually to recognize Managerial/Supervisory Staff who have made an exceptional contribution to the well being of children and families within Nova Scotia. It is an award which recognizes the leadership abilities of an individual who shapes, promotes, innovates, creatively motivates and encourages within his or her field of expertise.
Criteria and Nomination Process
Performance
Write a paragraph or two on the performance of the candidate using the following headings as guidelines. (Note: It is important to be as objective and specific as possible and to illustrate by example where possible the areas in which the candidate demonstrates outstanding performance.) Final submission to be a maximum of four pages, excluding support letters.
- Ability to Work Independently (candidate makes informed decisions, carries through appropriately, etc.)
- Creativity and Initiative (candidate tries new things, creative but not reckless, secure in the knowledge of the job, advocates on behalf of children and families, etc.)
- Organizational Skills (time management, attention to detail, follows through to conclusion, etc.)
- Personnel/Policy/Financial Management (staff supervision, deals effectively with personnel issues/policies, demonstrates fiscal responsibility and a knowledge of policy formulation, program development and coordination, etc.)
- Team Player-Leadership Qualities (leader among peers, supportive, respected by colleagues, professional and responsible in approach, etc.)
- Flexibility (considers different viewpoints, performance under pressure, etc.)
- Support to Children and Families, the Organization, and the Community (presents positive image, promotes agency's Mission, acts in culturally competent manner, networking and image in the community, etc.)
- Efforts at continuing education (courses, seminars, conferences, upgrading of skills; current with professional, work-related standards, appropriate legislation, etc.)
