YOUTH ADVISORY TEAM-DREAM TEAM
The Youth Advisory Team or ”Dream Team” as they like to be called is a peer support group for youth in and from care. Youth ages 15-24 from across the province come together 6-7 times a year to learn about leadership and independent living skills, as well as to advocate on behalf of all children and youth in care. They also are learning about giving back to the community, and each year chose an event to volunteer their time. This year the group volunteered at the launch of Foster Family Appreciation Week in Sydney, NS.
The meetings are followed by lunch and a fun activity. Past activities include painting ceramics, rock climbing, sailing, mini golf, visiting the Alyesford Zoo, Neptune Theatre, Nutcracker Ballet, Harbour Hopper Tour, a visiting the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site skating at the oval, cooking classes, visiting the new Halifax Central Library, Grand Pre National Park, hiking, shopping at the Farmers Market, and holiday parties. Funding for the Dream Team is secured exclusively through grant writing and private donations.
The Dream Team is always looking for new members, please contact the NSCF Office (902-422-1316 Ext. #4 or Jane@nscouncilfamily.org ) if you know of any youth in or from care who may be interested in joining the group.
